Witness Examination
Preliminary rounds of the Minter Ellison Witness Examination competition will take place at the University of Auckland Law School. Please assemble at the Minter Ellison banner in the foyer of the Law School one hour and 45 minutes before the start of each round in order to begin on time. 90 minutes before the start of the round competitors will be given the problem and then may go to their rooms to prepare. The witnesses will be sent to the competitors room 30 minutes before the start of the round.

Aaron Lloyd, Senior Associate
Aaron is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Dispute Resolution division, based in the firm’s Employment team in Auckland. He is an experienced litigator, working predominantly in the areas of employment law, white collar crime, and commercial litigation. Aaron has a broad range of legal experience, and has advised clients across a range of contentious matters in the areas of aviation, anti-trust, crime, defamation, employment, government, health, insurance, IT, IP, sports, tort and contract disputes and white collar and regulatory matters. He has argued cases before many of New Zealand’s courts and tribunals, including at Court of Appeal and Supreme Court level. In addition to his time at Minter Ellison, Aaron has also practiced at the bar, in the chambers of Paul Davison QC, acting on a broad range of complex and high-profile commercial and criminal matters. He has also held an appointment as an honorary lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the University of Auckland, lecturing in Legal Ethics.
Justice Allan
Justice Christopher Allan studied law at Auckland University, graduating LLB in 1965. He obtained the degree of LLM (Hons) in 1967. He joined Rudd Garland & Horrocks in November 1963 and became a partner in April 1970. That firm became part of the national firm then known as Rudd Watts & Stone. He served on a number of Auckland District Law Society committees over many years. Justice Allan was senior litigation partner at Minter Ellison Rudd Watts at the time of his appointment as a judge of the High Court in 2004. He is based in the Auckland High Court.
Mr Julian Miles, QC
Mr Julian Miles is a highly experienced barrister and Queen’s counsel who obtained his law degree from the University of Auckland. He has had a long and distinguished career, practicing particularly in the areas of intellectual property, defamation, media and privacy law. Before becoming a barrister sole in 1990 Julian Miles was a litigation partner at Bell Gully Buddle Weir. He has held a number of important positions in the legal community including President of the Auckland Medico-Legal Society as well as President of the New Zealand Bar Association from 1994-1995.
